The dangers of topical steroid withdrawal: “You can’t live a normal life”

In the UK, one in 10 adults suffer with eczema, an inflammatory skin condition that causes dry and itchy skin – but what happens if the medicine prescribed to treat the issue actually makes it worse?

Eczema is the most common skin condition, and it can be triggered by stress, soaps, or it can even be genetic.

While many people can use moisturisers to help soothe the irritated skin, some cases require prescribed drugs in order to help calm the condition.

Topical steroids are often used to treat eczema and can help reduce symptoms.

For some patients, however, the issue can be exacerbated and lead to withdrawal once the course is done.

In this episode of the Mancunian Matters Podcast, Ella Wilcox spoke to two men about their experiences with the condition.
