A North Yorkshire drumming circle has celebrated the upcoming lunar new year with an evening of collective drumming, poetry, and reflection.
Members of Earthpath Drumming convened in Grewelthorpe Village Hall – just west of Ripon – to bang the drum for the fast-approaching year of the fire horse.
This new year on February 17 will mark 60 years since the last fire horse, which is said to bring with it heightened activity, creativity, and assertiveness to individuals.
Earthpath Drumming co-founder Jane Jones even mused that in the last fire horse year, England won the football world cup.
She said of the act of group drumming: “It’s very regulating, it’s grounding.
“The fact that you’re coming together and sharing the energy with other people as well, so it’s communal.”
Earthpath Drumming member Sarah Heagney said: “It’s amazing for mental health, you just let go of any stress of any tension.
“And on a physical level as well, it just really releases from the body.”
