A pregnant woman had her bag snatched while she was pushing her two young sons in a pram in Whalley Range last week.
The ‘distraught’ mother of two was approached from behind by two men just after 6pm on Wood Road, last Thursday.
One of offenders initially pushed her in the back and as she turned, startled, his accomplice snatched the bag from her hands – containing the woman’s purse, cash and mobile phone.
Detective Constable Paul Jackson said: “These two callous thieves stooped to an unforgivable low, targeting a vulnerable woman who is both pregnant and looking after her two other young children.
“She had no way of defending herself against these opportunistic and cowardly thieves and as any mother reading or hearing this will sympathise with, she was absolutely terrified and just wanted to protect her children.
“Thankfully neither she or the children were injured although she is very distraught.”
The woman, 43, is two months pregnant and was pushing her nine-month-old boy and three-year-old son in a double pram.
After stealing the handbag both robbers immediately fled the scene down Carlton Road.
The first thief is described as being asian, 5ft 8in tall, about 16-years-old and of a slim build with acne on his forehead wearing a black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers.
His partner was also asian, of a similar height and age.
Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
“This shameless attack happened in broad daylight, so we believe there may be a lot of potential witnesses who could help us find these two criminals,” said Detective Constable Jackson.
“If you did witness what happened, or you suspect who may be involved, or have any information whatsoever, then we need to hear from you.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
