Pair to appear in court on neglect charges after boy, 2, found with serious injuries in Tameside house

By Danielle Wainwright

A two-year-old boy remains in a critical condition after being found with serious injuries to his face and chest at a Tameside house.

Sulabat Ahmad, 56, and Muhaz Ahmad, 34, both of Dean Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, are charged with causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm and child neglect and will appear at Tameside Magistrates’ Court today.

Police were called to the house on Saturday after receiving reports of a poorly and injured child – the boy was taken to Tameside General Hospital and then transferred to Manchester Royal Infirmary where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Detective Inspector Richard Ennis said: “Investigations involving the potential neglect or abuse of children are often extremely complicated.

“I want to stress that if anyone does have concerns or information we would urge them come forward with what they know because the safety of children should be absolutely paramount in everyone’s mind

“Please be reassured that if you do speak to us whatever you tell us will be treated sensitively and investigated thoroughly.”
