Relentless sex pervert prowls Rochdale street then indecently assaults woman, 78, after claiming to be ‘from church’

By Danielle Wainwright

A sexual deviant pretended to be a church member and gained access to a Rochdale sheltered accommodation where he indecently assaulted an elderly woman in her bedroom on Sunday.

The pervert had already knocked on three other doors on Ravendale Close before he approached the home of a 78-year-woman at around 12.20pm and claimed that he was from the church.

Shortly after he indecently assaulted the woman in her bedroom exposing himself to her.

Police are appealing to the homeowners who may have seen the man to come forward and it is believed that the man had visited Cutgage Baptist Church just before the attack.

Detective Sergeant Julie Adams, of Rochdale North INPT, said: “The victim in this case has been through a traumatic experience and we are doing all we can to both support her and catch the offender.

“He clearly played on the vulnerabilities of the elderly by telling them he was from the church and banked on one of them letting him inside.

“Once he was let over the threshold he showed his true intention.”

Police have warned homeowners, particularly the elderly, to be wary of callers who approach their door and to always ask for ID before letting anyone in.

The offender is described as white, slim build, early 20’s, short dark hair, wearing a waterproof light cream or white jacket with blue sleeves and possibly a body warmer over a blue zipped up Adidas tracksuit jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
