Amir Khan arrest: Bolton boxer brands alleged assault ‘nonsense’ on Twitter

Former world champion boxer Amir Khan has been arrested after allegedly attacking two teenagers as they were returning from a mosque in Bolton.

The 27-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Friday in connection to the assault on Russell Street in Heaton. Khan has been released on bail until mid-July.

The alleged victims, who are reported to be known to Khan and aged 19, are said to have been hurt but not been seriously injured.

The 2004 Olympic silver medallist denied any wrong doing via social media, tweeting: “All nonsense please don’t believe what you read.

“I’m home with my family and nobody got beat up.”

Rather than keep a low profile over the weekend, Khan took to Twitter and even launched an #askamir session where followers could ask him anything, he didn’t however answer any questions regarding Friday night.

The alleged assault occurred after the boxer pulled up alongside a group of men in a Mercedes C-class.

Witnesses claim the ruckus started when a member of the group was accused of making comments to one of Khan’s friends.

A police spokesman said officers were called shortly before 1.30am after reports of an assault.

This is not the first time khan has had a run in with the law. In 2006 the former WBA and IBF light welterweight champion was arrested after a pedestrian was injured in an accident with the boxer’s BMW 654 convertible.

Khan was cleared of dangerous driving but was convicted of driving without due care and attention, he was fined £1,000 and banned from the road for six months.
