Week one at Wimbledon: Facts and figures from SW19

Wimbledon is a yearly tradition for the people of Britain and around the world and whether you like tennis or not, we always find ourselves glued to the TV.

Wimbledon is the oldest tennis competition in the world, founded in 1877, and is regarded as the most prestigious.

Here are some impressive facts and figures, and interesting quotes from the stars of the show.

And how’s this for a stat?! The overall attendance in 2016 was a massive 493,928 compared to 484,391 in 2015.

And here Rafael Nadal – aiming for a third title and his first since 2010 – gives us his philosophy on life…

“Don’t relax yourself when you are winning. Keep having the motivation to improve. Don’t consider yourself too good.”

Meanwhile last year there were some interesting quotes from the Wimbledon stars, as we see here from Arsenal fan James Ward on the benefits of being injured.

“I went to every game last season, which was nice. That was the only plus of not being able to play.”
