Grief-stricken family bury dead mother… while thieves break into Stalybridge home stealing irreplaceable pictures

By Danielle Wainwright

Heartless thieves broke into a Stalybridge family’s home as they were burying their deceased mother on Monday and stole a phone containing ‘sentimental’ photos.

A 48-year-old man and 11-year-old girl were burying the woman when intruders broke into their home on Cheshire Square, Carrbrook, between 1pm and 6.30pm and swiped an iPad, iPhone4 a purse and cash.

The items which were stolen contained family photographs and police are urging whoever responsibility to return the items.

PC Susan Burgess, said: “While dealing with the loss of a much loved mother and partner, the family has returned home to find their home burgled and possessions stolen.

“Obviously this coupled with the fact that the items stolen contain treasured family photos, has compounded their grief.

“These photographs cannot be replaced or re-taken. Their sentimental value is immeasurable.

“I doubt whoever is responsible will be aware of these circumstances but I hope that on learning of them they will be compelled to return these items or tell us where we can find them.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 9350 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
