RSPCA Appeal after black kitten with broken leg found in Oldham

The RSPCA is appealing for information after a black kitten with a bandage and broken leg was found in Oldham.

The animal welfare charity is urging owners or anyone with information about the black cat which was found with a bandage around its leg on Rock Street in Oldham on Saturday, 30 December, to contact them.

According to the RSPCA, the cat wasn’t microchipped, and it’s unknown if the cat was abandoned or had gone missing from its home.

Animal rescue officer Ross Allan said: “The cat was found struggling to walk and was pulling their back legs behind them, so they were clearly in a lot of pain. A vet examination showed that the kitten had a badly broken leg.”

The cat deteriorated at the vets and was put to sleep to end its suffering.

Allan said: “We have made enquiries in the local area and put up posters but have had no luck so far.”

In 2023, the RSPCA received 20,995 reports of an abandoned animal – more than in 2022, 2021 and 2020.

Ross added: “Sadly, animal neglect and abandonment calls to us are at a three-year high, which is why we need our supporters to join the winter rescue to help more animals like this poor cat.”

Those with information can call the RSPCA’s appeals line on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference 01202799.
