Collision between Metrolink tram and car in Manchester city centre cleared – normal services now resume

By Mancunian Matters staff

Metrolink services through Manchester city centre have resumed following a collision between a tram and a car today.

All trams travelling through the city centre were halted following a serious accident on Mosley Street, which trapped two people in the car.

Emergency services were on scene working to cut the pair free, while police advised people to avoid the area.

Passangers on trams on the Altrincham line had to alight at Deansgate until the route was cleared.

Transport for Greater Manchester announced that normal services had now resumed.

They tweeted at 1.44pm: “We’ve had the all clear to resume services through the city. We’ll now start to get service patterns / frequencies back to normal.”

An eyewitness told MM: “It looked really serious. They had cordoned off the whole of Mosley Street and there were a lot of police and ambulance crew everywhere.

“Two people had become trapped inside the car because it was so badly damaged and they were attempting to cut them out.”
