Masked thugs attack police patrol car with paving slabs and baseball bats after being pulled over in Stockport

By Faye Parr

Masked men launched a terrifying attack with paving slabs and baseball bats on a police patrol car on Sunday in North Reddish, Stockport.

Police pulled over a stolen Audi A6 at around 12.35am on Windmill Lane – but when the men got out of the car they launched the violent attack.

The patrol car suffered extensive damage.

Inspector Matt Bailey-Smith of the Road Policing Unit said: “Thankfully none of the officers were injured, but this once again demonstrates how our officers can face violence in even the most innocuous of situations.”

After the violent attack the men got back into the stolen vehicle and sped off, later abandoning it.

Inspector Matt Bailey-Smith said: “I now want to hear from anyone who saw this car speeding off from Windmill Lane or has any information.”

Anybody with any information relating to this incident and the men involved is encouraged to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
