Dress like a Manc or bathe in Vimto… Charity calls for week of Manchester-themed fundraising events in city

A charity is calling for people to throw Manc-themed fundraisers across the region over the next seven days.

Forever Manchester hopes that businesses, schools and individuals will help raise cash for community groups in their area.

The charity, which already helps fund thousands of grassroots projects, is asking people to get creative during Forever Manchester Week.

Just some of the charity’s Manchester-themed fundraising ideas include dressing like a famous Manc for a day, perform a ‘Manc Walk’ around the office, or sit in a bath of Vimto.

A range of local businesses have already got involved with the activities.

Crazy Pedro’s have created a Curry Mile pizza, Black Dog Ballroom have unveiled a Stone Roses cocktail and the Manchester Brewing Company have designed the 10 Boroughs Pale Ale especially for the week.

Local celebs such as John Cooper Clarke, boxer Anthony Crolla and Shameless actor Jody Latham have also pledged their support to the fundraising week.

“Everything we do is because we love the city and its surrounding towns and cities,” said Nick Massey, Chief Executive of Forever Manchester.

“Tony Wilson was right, we do do things differently here and we can’t wait to see the weird and wonderful ideas Mancunians come up with to help us.”

“We are already overwhelmed by the response Forever Manchester Week has received.”

The charity has also teamed up with the Manchester Beer Week, a celebration of pub-culture and all things hoppy.

Manchester Beer Week, which starts today, is encouraging bars across the city to join in with the fundraising.

Just some of the registered events include a Tour de Manc bike ride, guided tours of the city and an open-air boxing show.

Forever Manchester Week runs from June 10 – June 17, click here for more information.
