Watch: The HERDS life size animal puppets stampeded through Leigh to raise climate awareness

Life size animal puppets grazed at Pennington Flash in Leigh as part of the HERDS 20,000 kilometres journey from the Congo Basin to the Artic Circle.

The HERDS aim is to bring together communities, artist and environmentalist along their journey to promote environmental concern for animals being driven from their habitats.

The puppets are made from recycled materials the HERDS said they “are symbols of movement, climate awareness, and collective action.”

The HERDS also launched the Emerging Company that provided puppeteers with training whilst travelling with the puppets across multiple countries for 10 weeks.

They had previously visited Rochdale and Manchester.

The World Wildlife Fund report published in 2024 found a 73% decline in the average size of monitored wildlife populations in just 50 years.
