Violent robber flees empty handed from botched Eccles robbery – leaving security guard unconscious

By Ben Southworth

A thief who subjected a security guard to a vicious blow to the head after stealing a cash box was left covered in dye on Tuesday after the detonation device exploded as he fled.

The victim was on Castle Street at about 10.30am on Tuesday July 9 when he was hit over the head by a man who jumped out from behind his van.

The blow knocked the security guard to the ground allowing the robber to pick up the cash box he had been holding.

As the attacker attempted to make his get-away on a motorbike driven by an accomplice, a security mechanism on the cash box detonated giving off a dye.

The detonation caused the robber to drop the cash box and the offenders sped off empty handed.

Detective Constable Phillips added: “We are determined to find those responsible for this violent robbery and would appeal for witnesses to come forward.

“We would also ask that anyone who may have seen anyone who was wearing clothing that had dye on it to call us.”

The aggressor is described as being 6ft tall, of medium to athletic build and was wearing a light grey tracksuit at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 5097 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
