Knife-wielding man Tasered outside Longsight primary school after attacking parents

A man allegedly attacked parents outside a Longsight primary school before threatening police officers with knives – forcing them to Taser him.

At approximately 3pm yesterday, police responded to a call from St Luke’s Church of England primary school on Langport Avenue, amid reports that a man had pushed two women to the ground and shouted abuse at parents waiting outside the school.

The perpetrator walked away following the attack, but later returned brandishing two knives with which he proceeded to threaten police officers who had arrived on the scene.

The officers said they were forced to use a Taser to subdue the offender.

Detective Inspector Gareth Davies said: “I would like to reassure the public that this man is safely in custody and is being overseen by specially trained staff.

“Officers arrived within minutes and were able to quickly resolve the situation, ensuring no harm came to the wider public, the man or the officers themselves.”

A 30-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of affray.
