Anti-lockdown protesters march through Manchester city centre

Hundreds of protesters took part in an anti-lockdown march through the city centre today.

The protest began in Piccadilly Gardens and turned into a march down Market Street, along Cross Street and then past the Town Hall in Albert Square.

Holding placards and banners with a variety of anti-lockdown and anti-mask messages – including ‘free hugs’, ‘we’re Tier Free’ and ‘free your face’.

Another read ‘if we lose the pubs we lose the soul of England’.

During the event, protesters spoke through a megaphone about their reasons for gathering.

Other banners were against the Covid-19 vaccine, and others supported the claim that the virus only kills 1% of people.

Greater Manchester is currently in Tier 3 which bans meeting indoors and means all hospitality has to remain closed, except for takeaway.
