Manchester radio station offers youngsters alternative route into media

A Manchester radio station is offering local teens an opportunity to break into today’s closed media industry.

Unity Radio, one of the city’s biggests independent stations, began their New Talent Academy almost a year ago.

It has helped scores of aspiring Mancunians gain a foothold into an industry notorious for being a closed shop.

Educational lead, James Bayat, believes the glitz and glam of Media City puts a lot of local young people off.

In his view, making them feel their background and level of education is prohibitive for a career on the Quays.

That is where Unity comes in.
