Niagara Falls tourism plummets, threatening region’s economy

The Covid-19 pandemic has all but wiped out tourism to Niagara Falls, creating fears about the region’s tourism-dependent economy.

Niagara Falls is one of Canada’s most visited tourist destinations, welcoming millions of tourists a year.

Perched just above the waterfalls themselves is the city of Niagara Falls, a tourist town with shops, hotels and attractions.

Tourism is hugely important to the city and region, as it brings in billions of Canadian dollars a year and supports a huge number of jobs.

However, Canadian border closures and a stay-at-home order from the Ontario Premier Doug Ford have wiped out tourism, putting the tourism industry around the falls at risk.

We visited the falls to see just how quiet it is, and what can be done to help Niagara’s economy recover.
