Teen student found dead in hall of residence

A University of Manchester student has been found dead in his halls of residence, at the age of 19.

This tragic death is not being treated as suspicious, and is not coronavirus related.

The young man was pronounced dead at the scene, after emergency services had been called to the Fallowfield halls at 5pm Thursday.

The student has not been named, and no further information has been released.

The family is asking the public to respect their privacy during this difficult time, and the University has ensured that they are supporting the family as much as they can.

In a statement from the University on behalf of the students family, Director for the Student Experience Simon Merrywest said: “The family have asked us to make it clear that this incident is not Covid-19-related and that they would wish to see their privacy respected at this difficult time.”

An inquest is expected, with more details to follow at a later date.
