Northern Quarter pub wins Central Manchester Pub of the Year

A Northern Quarter pub was recently awarded the prestigious title of Central Manchester Pub of the Year in the Campaign for Real Ale’s national competition.

The Smithfield Market Tavern on Great Ancoats Street is managed by local brewery Blackjack, with the pub serving as the brewery’s taphouse.

The pub has seen a large uptick in visitors since receiving the award, also attributing traffic to regular quiz and DJ nights.

Stephen Bundy, who has worked at the Smithfield for a number of years, said: “It’s Blackjack that took it over from the previous landlords and made it their own really.

“They’ve really made it a warm and welcoming place to come and chill out and have a pint.”
