The North West’s only choir formed entirely of cancer patients and survivors are staging a fundraising concert this December.
Bolton Cancer Voices are set to showcase their talents with an evening of festive tunes during their Jingle Bell Sing-A-Long show on December 7.
Taking to the stage at Bolton’s Victoria Hall, Knowsley Street, funds raised will enable the group to continue providing a musical haven for members battling the condition.
Choir chair Karen Elliott said: “We decided to take on such an ambitious project because we thought it would be a great, inspirational and uplifting experience for our members.”
With hopes of a sell-out event, the choir will be joined by event host Dr Kevin Jones and 195-year-old brass ensemble Besses o’th Barn Band.
Dr Jones, Consultant Physician at Royal Bolton Hospital, said: “This is a new venture for me to compere a concert but I am really looking forward to bringing a bit of humour to a fantastic musical evening.
“I think it will be great fun working with such a talented and exuberant bunch of people.”
Formed in 2012, Bolton Cancer Voices aspires to be a source of inspiration for those whose lives have been personally touched by cancer.
Ms Elliott said: “When someone receives a cancer diagnosis it can be devastating and even after treatment is complete the consequences of the diagnosis, illness or treatment may continue to be felt.
“We want to send out the message loud and clear that though cancer may have become a part of your life, cancer does not define your life.”
Eager to take centre stage with new vocalists, specialists involved with the support, care and treatment of cancer are now invited to join the choir to perform timeless Christmas classics.
Speaking of the decision to unite with professionals on stage, Ms Elliott said: “This is symbolic of everyday life when someone receives a cancer diagnosis and together they face the challenges that are to come.
“People will never know how enjoyable, uplifting and therapeutic singing can be if they don’t come along and give it a try – we need lots more singers so please get in touch.”
