‘Ugly scenes’ on Rochdale streets as road rage incident descends into mass brawl – four arrested

By Marios Papaloizou

A road rage incident which spiralled into a mass brawl in Rochdale on Tuesday has led to the arrest of four people.

Police were initially called to reports of fighting on Salkeld Street at 12.50pm, however when they arrived there was no disturbance.

A short time later, police were called to a further incident involving a large group of people at Salik Gardens – some of whom are believed were present at the first brawl.

Inspector Umer Khan said: “It appears that this may have been sparked by little more than a traffic dispute, however the incidents that followed brought ugly scenes to our streets.

“We quite simply will not stand for such behaviour and as a result of the investigation that was launched immediately following these incidents we have arrested four people.”

The arrests were all on suspicion of violent disorder and police are asking that anyone with any information contact them by calling 101.
