Man arrested one year after Withington shooting saw victim blasted in neck and chin

A man has been arrested for attempted murder in connection with a Withington shooting last year, which left another man critically injured after taking a bullet to the neck.

Lerone Murphy suffered severe injuries after being shot in the neck on Lloyd Street South, Fallowfield, last year.

The 21-year-old was left in a serious condition after the shooting and was rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary with injuries to his neck and chin.

The attack occurred in broad daylight at around 3.30pm on Saturday May 25.

Residents at the time of the incident said they heard shouting followed by three shots and two men were later arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “On Tuesday March 18 2014, as part of an exhaustive investigation, a 24-year-old man was arrested in the Warwickshire area on suspicion of attempted murder.”

The man has been transported back to Greater Manchester, where he will be questioned regarding the incident.

After the attack, Mr Murphy received a large amount of support from well-wishers and friends, including from former Manchester United player Ravel Morrison.

The West Ham United star, who is currently on-loan at QPR, posted on Twitter: “Praying for you, bounce back soon.”

After the attack, a large section of Lloyd Street South was closed along with a number of businesses while police controlled the situation.
