Blazer squad: Manhunt for smartly-dressed violent trio after Failsworth street attack

Police have begun a manhunt for three smartly-dressed violent offenders who left a man brutally injured outside an Failsworth pub at the weekend.

A man in his 50s was dragged to the floor and beaten by three smartly-dressed strangers after being mocked about his appearance in an incident at the weekend.

The thugs instigated an unprovoked attack as the man was walking past Lamb Inn on Oldham Road, Failsworth, between 2am and 3am on Sunday morning.

Initially, the victim tried to laugh off the verbal abuse, but it turned violent when one of the offenders grabbed him by the throat and dragged him to the floor.

As the man lay defenceless on the ground, the other offenders joined in and kicked him repeatedly to the head and body.

The three men then walked calmly towards the Texaco garage further down the road.

Detective Constable Leigh Carnally said: “We are investigating a completely unprovoked, and totally cowardly attack on a man who was simply walking home from the pub.

“After being verbally abused about his appearance, the three offenders then launched into a heinous and uncalled for assault, dragging him to the floor and repeatedly striking him as he lay defenceless.”

The first man is described as white, in his 20s, of a thin build, about 5ft 8in tall and wearing a shiny grey blazer and a white shirt.

The second was also white, about 5ft 5in tall with black hair brushed back or gelled. He was wearing a white shirt and grey pants.

There is no description of the third man.

DC Carnally added: “We need to find these three men so I would appeal to anyone who has information to come forward.

“If you were in the pub that night and either witnessed what happened, or perhaps saw this trio lurking about the area, then please come forward and speak to us as your information could be crucial.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 0161 856 9080 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
