Wigan toddler drowns in ‘heartbreaking’ Tunisia holiday tragedy – appeal launches

By Danielle Wainwright

An appeal has been launched after a Wigan toddler drowned on a family holiday in Tunisia.

The two-year-old died at the Houda Golf and Beach resort Skanes on Wednesday September 25.

An inquest is to be held by HM Coroner for Bolton and Wigan as Greater Manchester Police urge holidaymakers who were present at the time for information.

Police Coroner’s Officer Paul Devine said: “Our thoughts are with his family at this heart-breaking time.

“While the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has been offering support to the family, we have been asked by the coroner to appeal to anyone who may have seen this tragedy or its aftermath.

“This is not a criminal investigation and there are no suspicious circumstances, however the family supports this request as this will help the coroner best decide the tragic circumstances that lead to the boy’s death.”

Police have also been alerted to talk through social media of the accident and are trying to contact anyone who claims to be a witness.

There may also be British tourist who saw the accident and do not know that an inquest is taking place.

Anyone with any information should call police on 0161 856 5496 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
