Don(ut) you wanna go? Manchester Airport gets US Airways daily service to North Carolina – home of Krispy Kreme

By Tim Hyde

US Airways have announced plans to add a daily service flying from the home of Krispy Kreme donuts, North Carolina, to Manchester.

After Manchester Airport revealed it handled more than 2.2million passengers in September – up 5.2 per cent compared with a year ago – US Airways declared the route to North Carolina’s Charlotte will launch in May 22 2014.

The airline which already provides a service to Philadelphia has helped the airport achieve 16 consecutive months of year on year growth.

“US Airways continues to expand our Charlotte hub and our presence in Europe by adding flights between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and four popular European destinations to meet peak travel demand,” said Andrew Nocella, US Airways senior vice president of marketing and planning.

“The flights complement service from our international gateway at Philadelphia and give consumers on both sides of the Atlantic more one-stop access to popular points in Europe, the United States and beyond.”

In addition to the new daily Charlotte route, Air Canada has recently revealed plans to introduce a non-stop service between Toronto and Manchester five times a week from June 2014.

Ken O’Toole, chief commercial officer for Manchester Airports Group (MAG), said: “We have put our focus on attracting a multitude of new routes as well as increasing services on the ever popular destinations so we’re delighted with the recent new route announcements, particularly Vienna as this is a destination we’ve wanted to serve for a long time.”
