Oldham sex pest leaves youngsters ‘alarmed and distressed’ after string of indecent exposures

By Danielle Wainwright

A number of indecent exposure incidents in Oldham this month have left victims ‘alarmed and distressed’ as police appeal to the public for help in catching the offender.

The crimes were reported between April 30 and May 21 around Daisy Nook and Chadderton, with the offender mostly approaching teenage girls between 13 and 18 years old, before exposing himself.

The latest incident happened on Thurland Street with an 18-year-old girl just after 11.30am on Tuesday, with clear similarities to the five other ‘lewd’ attacks reported to police.

Using the last victim’s description of the man, a digital image has been created (above).

Detective Sergeant Ged Hollywood, said: “At best the young girls have been left embarrassed and at worst these offences are causing them to feel alarmed and distressed.

“People should be able to walk about in public spaces without fear of such lewd incidents and we are working to identify the person responsible.

“I also want the community to be aware of these incidents and this man, particularly teenage girls.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to identify the man, who is described as white, between 40 and 50 years old, of medium build with dark but greying receding hair.

He is known to wear blue trousers and either a blue or grey top.

DS Hollywood said: “I want anyone – and their parents – who might go out and about in the Chadderton and Daisy Nook area to be mindful of what has been happening and if they see anything suspicious to contact us.

“If you are approached by a man similar to the one described by other victims please do not approach or engage with him but leave the area and call the police.”

The first two incidents happened within two hours of each other at Daisy Nook Visitors Centre on Stannybrook Road on April 30, where the victims were 14 and 15 years old.

In Foxdenton Hall Park three victims – one 13-year-old and two 14-year-olds – were approached at 6.20pm on May 7.

The fourth and fifth incidents happened in Chadderton on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday May 15 at around lunchtime.

The victims were 16 and 18 years old.
