A fire has erupted at the Hotspur Press building on Gloucester Street in central Manchester.
Smoke was seen billowing from the building, an old mill, filling the streets and sky as onlookers watched.
Firefighters are on the scene and a cordon has been established.
The fire started some time before 4:45pm today, but the police officers we spoke to couldn’t give further details.
It is also not yet clear how the fire started, but a firefighter told the public to step back as there are concerns about asbestos in the building.
Cracking noises could be heard as the fire tore through the old Mill.
Police officers on the scene are establishing the facts and the fire service presence has increased, with at least half a dozen fire engines, ambulances and police cars on site.
Jack Gou, a 23-year-old graduate of the University of Manchester, lives in the building across from Hotspur Press.
He said: “After coming back from supermarket I realised the building next to my house was on fire.
“Then I saw the fire, it looks like something from a movie.
“I was quite concerned, I have so many valuables in there [at home].”
This is a developing story.
