Oldham man charged with rape, sex assaults and GBH involving three women

An Oldham man has been charged with violently assaulting one woman and sexually assaulting two others.

Iqbal Ali, 33, of Broadway, Chadderton, is today in court charged with two counts of rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against one of the women.

Detectives on the case spoke to a number of people regarding Ali’s offences, resulting in the offender being charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to a second, and two counts of indecently assaulting a woman over 16 and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against a third.

Police launched an investigation on October 15 after learning that a woman aged 27 had been admitted to the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Detective Inspector Andy Naismith, said: “Last week a young woman was admitted to the Royal Oldham Hospital with very serious injuries.

“Since that time we have had a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances surrounding how she came to be injured.”

The woman admitted to the Royal Oldham Hospital remains in a stable condition.

“As part of our investigation into this incident we have charged Iqbal Ali with very serious offences against three different and unconnected women,” Detective Inspector Naismith said.

“Our investigations are very much continuing and I would urge anyone else who might have information relevant to these or other matters to call us.”

Ali was due to appear at Oldham Magistrates’ Court today.
