Hertz goes green with new waterless carwashes

A growing number of the world’s businesses are becoming committed to adopting sustainable business practices.

Businesses were once reluctant to ‘go green’ due to the added costs, but it is now seen as sound business sense to make the switch to energy-efficient technology.

Secondly, as environmental issues go ever higher on the public’s agenda, going green also clearly works from a public relations standpoint.

One company to go green – the first car rental in the world to commit itself to doing so – is Hertz.co.uk.

So what is Hertz doing to improve the sustainability of its business practices?

In addition to its Green Traveller Collection – a range of 5000 electric-powered and hybrid cars – as well as using recycled paint and building materials to revamp many of its offices, Hertz has announced its new eco-friendly car washing technology, which it has installed at 200 of its rental locations.

The system has been installed at these locations as part of a trial period after which the company will assess the system success using customer feedback.

If indeed the system is a success, this non-poisonous car washing service will be installed at a further 3700 locations in Europe and the Unites States.

How is the new Hertz car washing system green?

Well, first it is expected to save around 492 million litres of water, as well as saving energy due to the fact that the water will not require heating or treating prior to being used to wash cars.

In addition, the system will not require the use of toxic chemicals.

This is because the system is completely waterless, which addresses both the issue of sustainability and makes perfect business in that it will be saving the company money.

Created by a company called Green Team Partner, the system uses a hyper-concentrated carwash formula.

The molecules contained in the solution are said by Hertz to ‘safely lift dirt particles away’ from the finish on the car, and the dirt is then wiped away using a high-quality microfiber cloth, before a second microfiber cloth is used to polish the car’s surface.

What else is Hertz doing to increase its sustainability?

The company is purportedly in the process of converting to solar power and LED lights in favour of conventional lighting.
