Wythenshawe man in hospital after pub shooting – police appeal for witnesses

A man was shot in the leg at a Wythenshawe pub last night – police are asking the local community for their help in solving this ‘alarming’ crime.

GMP officers discovered a 29-year-old man had been shot when they were called to wa pub on Woodhouse Park shortly before 9.25pm yesterday.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he is being treated for gunshot wounds to his leg. His condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

Detective Inspector Tony Lea of South Manchester division said: “People will understandably be alarmed when they hear about this incident but we believe that this was a targeted attack.

“I would like to assure the public that we have increased level of police officers in area and we do not believe there is a wider threat to the community.”

Police are appealing to anyone who anyone in the local community who may have seen or heard something.

DI Lea added: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and are working to establish who may be behind the shooting.

“I would urge the local community to come forward if they saw or heard anything in the area on Thursday night to contact police.”
