By Helen Le Caplain

The roof of a double decker bus was ripped off after it crashed into a Stockport railway bridge on Saturday.

At around 1.40pm emergency services were called to Georges Road, Heaton Norris, after reports a bus had collided into the bridge.

Six of the ten passengers on board were injured during the incident and were taken to hospital for treatment to cuts and bruises.

One passenger was trapped on the top deck for a short period before he was rescued by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service officers.

Sergeant Danny Byrne from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A bus carrying 10 passengers has crashed into a railway bridge, it is only by sheer luck that no-one was seriously injured.

“If you were in the area at the time of the crash and witnessed the incident I would urge you to contact the police with any information.”

Anyone with information should GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4742 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
