Ever not liked Beckham’s haircut? Now you can style it yourself… Manchester United open Goldenballs exhibition

By Tim Hyde

Flying boots, sarongs and Spice Girls are all part of the historic career of one of the most iconic footballers to ever pull on the famous red shirt of Manchester United – David Beckham.

Becks joined United at the age of 14 and, despite globetrotting exploits, his footballing home is still considered to be Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have now honoured the career of ‘Goldenballs’ with a temporary exhibition at the club’s museum – which includes the ability to style Becks’ infamous hair.

The exhibition features iconic memorabilia from his illustrious career as well as interactive aspects where visitors can predict where Becks placed the ball during one of his many famous strikes.

Manchester United Museum curator said: “Primarily the exhibition concentrates on his time at Manchester United, but this is put into context with items from both his schooldays and items from his post United career.

“There is also a ‘where did he put it’ touch sensitive panel so that a visitor can guess where David scored his famous goal for England against Greece in a World Cup qualifier at Old Trafford in 2001.”

Beckham, regarded as one of the best free-kick takers of all-time, won the majority of his titles at Old Trafford during his 11 year tenure from 1992 to 2003.

The former England captain played a major role in winning six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the UEFA Champions League in the un-forgettable 1998-1999 season.

Just as famous off the pitch as he is on it, Becks is also well known for his changing hairstyle and visitors can relive some of these via an interchangeable portrait of his famous face.

“He is certainly one of the most famous players on the planet who has had a huge impact on the clubs that he has played for,” said the Curator.

“I like the interactive David Beckham hairstyle chooser. In this you can stick a variety of different magnetic Beckham hairstyles onto his bald head.”

The iconic midfielder accumulated 394 appearances and 85 goals for the Red Devils and is still considered a United legend despite of playing for various different clubs across the globe.
