Cuban Salsa flash mob in St Peter’s Square

Dozens of people took part in a Cuban salsa flash mob dance in St Peter’s Square.

The interactive dance class was run by local La Suerta Dance School on Saturday.

The event began at 4pm with the aim of engaging locals and commuters in movement and to promote their classes.

The idea of the event was to catch people finishing their days and leaving the trams or nearby Piccadilly and Victoria Stations, and to encourage self expression and joy through physical movement.

A band of Spanish musicians, rattles, tambourines and sparkly hula skirts were handed out to those who were brave enough to join upon arrival.

The live class began with introductory moves and warm ups from the teachers wending their way through the separate groups, and ended with the crowd being encouraged to come together in a huge circle, in an attempt to form the largest group possible.

The organisation holds sessions at 58-60 Higher Ardwick every evening specialising in Bachata, the Cha Cha, Reggaeton and the Cuban Salsa, and are open to all levels.
