Transfer deadline day latest: Gossip from Man Utd and Man City as deals come thick and fast

Here at Mancunian Matters we don’t have a helicopter but the internet is working and there is plenty of transfer deadline day gossip already doing the rounds.

17.54pm Radamel Falcao’s sensational deadline-day move to Manchester United moves a step closer as the Colombian striker touches down in Manchester airport.

The sought-after striker will travel to United’s Carrington training ground where he will take part in a medical to seal the player.

The Colombian, who has scored 11 goals in 20 appearances for the French Ligue 1 side, has been strongly linked to Real Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal and Italian champions Juventus.

The deal will reportedly cost United in the region of £9million for the season with an option to make the deal permanent next summer.

17.40pm No sign of any players heading into Spotland, but Rochdale have sold forward George Donnelly to Tranmere Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

Dale, who have been playing without recognised strikers with Keith Hill preferring Matthew Done and Ian Henderson to Donnelly and Calvin Andrew, bought the 26-year-old from Macclesfield Town in 2012.

It’s fair to say fans are pleased to see the back of him.

15.13pm In addition to their pursuit of Nick Powell, Leicester City are also believed to have tabled a bid for young Man United forward Tom Lawrence.

Lawrence had been tipped to join Powell at the King Power Stadium on loan, but speculation suggests that the move could be a permanent one.

The 20-year-old Welshman made his one and only first team start under Ryan Giggs against Hull last season, and will have been pushed further away from the first team with Louis Van Gaal’s capture of Radamel Falcao today.

14:18pm Wigan strike again… with the signing of Adam Forshaw from fellow Championship side Brentford, manager Uwe Rosler’s old club.

The 22-year-old midfielder made 89 appearances for Brentford scoring 11 goals and moved to Brentford on loan from Everton in 2012, completing a permanent transfer later that year.

The move to Uwe Rosler’s side is thought to be a four-year deal.

14:05pm Wigan have officially completed the signing of Striker Andy Delort.

The France international, 22, arrives from French Ligue 2 side FC Tours, having scored an impressive 24 goals in just 36 appearances.

Delort was paraded in front of the Wigan fans prior to kick-off at Saturday’s game against Birmingham, however, Tours issued a statement saying that a fee had yet to be agreed between the clubs.

Cheer up lad. You’re in England now. Plenty of nice pies in Wigan too.

13:57pm Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of Javier Hernandez on a season long loan.

A clause in the contract states that Madrid have the option to purchase Chicharito at the end of his loan.

The Mexican who scored 37 goals in 102 appearances is surplus to requirements after the signing of Radamel Falcao earlier today.

The 26-year-old will be unveiled in a press conference at 15:30 this afternoon in Madrid.

13:53pm Manchester United midfielder Anderson could potentially be about to swap Old Trafford for Turf Moor.

The Brazilian, who came off the bench during United’s draw at Burnley on Saturday, would be something of a marquee signing for Sean Dyche and The Clarets.

United fans would not be too disappointed to see the back of Anderson, who has scored five goals in over one hundred appearances since 2007.

12:45pm Talk of Chile’s Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal heading to Old Trafford is on people’s lips again.

Tuttosport (in Italian) think the deal might be on…

11.43pm Leicester City are set to take Manchester United youngster Nick Powell on loan.

Powell has made just two league appearances since moving from Crewe in 2012. He has scored just one goal since moving to Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan in the Championship at Wigan, scoring 12 goals.

However United are keen for the promising midfielder to gain some experience in the Premier League.

10.37am Get your teeth into this over breakfast: Radamel Falcao, unfortunately absent from the World Cup through injury but who won the Europa League back-to-back in 2011 and 2012 with Porto and Atletico Madrid, will play for Manchester United this year after a year-long loan deal was struck up between the club and current employers Monaco.

Falcao has a remarkable goal-scoring record, notching up 41 goals in 51 appearances at the Portuguese club then scoring 52 in 68 while in the Spanish capital. He’s been in fine fettle during his short Monaco stint too.

United, Manchester City and Arsenal were believed to have been offered the forward for £55million by Monaco, rolling in the money after Falcao’s compatriot James Rodriguez completed a move around £70million to Real Madrid after finishing leading scorer at the World Cup.

City were reportedly negotiating the loan deal of Alvaro Negredo to Valencia for a year in order to secure Falcao’s name.

Former England player Stan Collymore took to Twitter to purr over the move, writing out United’s potential starting 11 within the space of a few days.

Which might look something like this.

Crikey. United fans will also be crossing their fingers for defensive reinforcements, one in the shape of Louis van Gaal’s Dutch compatriot Daley Blind.

Blind’s team Ajax were said to be unhappy with the asking rate for the defender though over the weekend things changed and it is expected the move will go through today, subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms.

A reminder the deadline is 11pm by the way.

After Shinji Kagawa’s departure for his old club Borussia Dortmund on a four-year deal, United have spaces to fill and the exit of Mexican Javier Hernandez to Real on a one-year loan is another potential gap at United.

Aston Villa’s move for Tom Cleverley is another one, Villa boss Paul Lambert however saying the transfer appeared to be stalling on Sunday. Spanish outfit Valencia are also thought to be interested in the midfielder.

Back to City and Micah Richards is attracting the interest of Sunderland and West Ham according to the club’s website, although there are further reports of the young defender being spotted in Italy as he looks to complete a loan deal at Fiorentina. Italian job? Hang on a minute lads, I’ve got a great idea.

Keep an eye out all day as the rumours continue to swirl around Old Trafford and the Etihad.
