‘Speechless’ Rosler tells Wigan to prove their worth after another wasteful outing

Wigan boss Uwe Rosler wants to start seeing value for his money after his side dominated yet lost 1-0 to Brighton and Hove Albion last night.

Albion scored inside the first minute and despite Wigan’s control over the game from then on, their seventeen shots on goal all went begging.

Rosler is looking ahead to the match against Bolton on Friday with nothing but goals in mind, knowing that his side need more quality in the final third to make their dominance count.

He said: “We just need to be scoring goals. After a game like that, I don’t look at the table.

“We can’t do more than dominate a game and I don’t know what to say after we dominated a game like that.

“On Friday, we expect a physical battle, more even, and we’ll need to score goals – with six games in three days, you can expect changes.

“In the last few weeks we’ve been far more creative, but we are scoring fewer goals than earlier in the season.

“The players can have an arm around their shoulder but when they cross the white line it’s down to them. We paid good money for them and we expect goals.”

The German manager has complimented his players plenty following the game but the Latics are struggling to maintain any consistency making it seem like the win against Derby was a stroke of luck.

“I can’t fault the appetite, energy or hunger from my players, we did everything we trained and worked on,” said Rosler.

“What was missing was the quality to score a goal and we had enough chances because we are attack-minded, not many teams have that – with all the domination we need quality in final third.”

Only five shots hit the target against Brighton, who have also been lacking in quality this season, so the Latics must go out with confidence against Bolton on Friday, Neil Lennon’s side currently second from bottom.
