Manchester Basketball became the first professional sports team to trial an interactive, weatherproof LED sports court developed by a local creative tech studio.
The trial of Glow Court was conducted on Monday 28 April, by both the men’s and women’s teams at the Manchester studio of the developer, CONDUCTR.
This marks the UK land debut of the groundbreaking court and is also the first time it’s being tested in a real-world, elite-sport environment.
Manchester Basketball player Ian Dubose said: “The glow court was really cool.
“It was like I was in a video game in a simulation, it was really high-tech.
“To see integrated technology in basketball in real life is great, and it was also cool how interactive it was.”
While basketball is the first sport trialled on the court, Glow Court was made with adaptability in mind and can also be used for community workouts, fitness games, schools, or other team sports.
CEO and co-founder of CONDUCTR Peter Cliff said: “It’s not just a sports court; it’s a fully interactive space that transforms in seconds, switching between games, fitness challenges and real-time content with the tap of a button.”
The technology on the court responds to players through native interactivity, with no need for wearables, headsets or handheld devices creating a dynamic fusion of sport, performance and play.
Jos van der Steen, COO and co-founder of CONDUCTR, said: “Having Manchester Basketball test it first is exactly how we wanted this to begin.
“Glow Court is a major step forward in how interactive technology is integrated into high-traffic indoor and outdoor environments.”
