Return of King Kun: Manchester City bolstered by news that Sergio Aguero is back in training

By Alan Ross

Sergio Aguero is set to return to Manchester City first team action this month after manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed the striker is back in training.

The Argentinian has scored 19 goals in 20 matches for City so far this season and suffered a calf injury in the match against Arsenal in December.

Ahead of tonight’s Capital One Cup semi-final first leg against West Ham United, Pellegrini said he was delighted to have Aguero back in contention with his team vying for honours in four different competitions.

“I think Sergio will be back during January – he’s working, he is training,” he said.

“Of course it’s very good news. Any players that are recovering from their injuries is very good news, especially an important player like Kun Aguero.”

However Montenegrin forward Stevan Jovetic, who joined the club in the summer of 2013 for £22million, remains sidelined.

The 24-year-old has only made five appearances for City so far as a number of injury problems have restricted the playing time of the former Fiorentina player.

“It’s difficult to know [with Jovetic], but I suppose the same as Kun, during January,” Pellegrini continued.

“Of course for the player it is very bad news always for him that he cannot play because I think he is a very important player.

“But things happen and we must try to be optimistic for the future and suppose that Stevan will play the second part of the season.”
