My boys are best: Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini boasts of league’s best squad

By Colin Rhodes

New Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has boasted that the club have the best squad in the Premier League.

The Chilean manager inherited a strong squad from his predecessor that includes a large portion of the squad that won the league in 2012.

As well as a strong core City have also bolstered their ranks with the addition of £90million worth of superstar talent.

Speaking at City Live, an event to launch the new season held in the city centre last night, the new boss said:” “I think we have the best squad in England. We bought four important players, we already had a very good team and with these four players I think we improved a lot.

“We have been working very hard in preseason, and we have another nine days before we start the Premier League.

“We hope that from the first match against Newcastle at home we will start winning, and we will try to bring another trophy here.”

The whole of the Manchester City squad was present at the event and fans who were present got their first glimpse of this summer’s new signings.

City’s Player of the Year, Pablo Zabaleta, received his award to a huge ovation from the fans.

The 28-year-old defender said:” “This is a very special moment for me. I have been here for five years at this club and I am very proud to be part of it. I would like to share this award with the fans because they made it possible.

“The atmosphere in the dressing room is great. We wish the new manager and all his staff the very best of luck for the future.”
