Rooney signs for Bury! Shakers snap up Wayne’s younger brother John

By Ben Southworth

League Two side Bury have pulled off a major transfer coup by snapping up Rooney Wayne’s younger brother John.

The 22-year-old has impressed enough during a recent trial to earn himself a one-year deal.

Rooney had been at Barnsley last season after returning from two years in the United States with New York Red Bulls and Orlando City.

The young forward, who began his career with Macclesfield Town, will be glad to have secured his future as a professional going into the new season.

Rooney signs on the same day as Chris Sedgwick, who also signed a 12-month contract following his release from Hyde FC, who play in the Conference, at the end of last season.

The duo become manager Kevin Blackwell’s tally of signings to eight since the club was bought by new chairman Stewart Day at the end of May.

Following the release of 16 players after relegation the Greater Manchester outfit had only an eight man squad before a transfer embargo was lifted upon Mr Day’s arrival at the club.
