Show him the money! Alvaro Negredo deal ‘not even close’ as Manchester City bid falls short of asking price

By Marios Papaloizou

Despite being ‘money bags Manchester City’, the Blues’ attempts to sign Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo have been shot down – as they failed to meet the player’s asking price.

City are desperate to sign a striker for the new season as they face reduced fire power following the departure of Carlos Tevez to Juventus earlier this summer.

Negredo, 27, recently issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to Europe’s elite clubs by telling Sevilla that he believes his future lies elsewhere.

Despite City offering big money to Sevilla, the club’s president Jose Maria del Nido has said that no clubs have come close to meeting his asking price.

“Sevilla put an evaluation on Negredo and either Sevilla are paid what they’re asking for or he stays for another three years,” he said.

“I’m not saying the price that’s been put on him. The ideal thing would be that he remains in Sevilla and renews for another two years.”

Sevilla appear resolute in their desire to either retain the player’s services or get big money if he leaves.

Del Nido added: “We are in no hurry. We are in a better situation than a month ago and we’ve shown that with the signing that we’ve made.”

The tough talk from Sevilla is an indication to City that they will need to dig deep into their pockets in order to sign their man.
