Mancunian boxing trainer Joe Gallagher is all set for the biggest night of his career, with two of his fighters challenging for world titles at the Manchester Arena on Saturday.
Bury-born Scott Quigg will be defending his WBA World Super Bantamweight title against former IBF world champion Kiko Martinez, whilst fellow Mancunian Anthony Crolla meets Darleys Perez for a shot at his WBA World Lightweight belt, just seven months after being hospitalized by burglers.
The two are jointly headlining a show that could justifiably claim to be one of Manchester’s biggest boxing events, and Gallagher believes that both men are capable of claiming highly impressive victories.
“If Anthony Crolla wins as well as Scott Quigg against Kiko Martinez then that’s an unbelievable night that’s never been done before,” he said.
“Two lads from Manchester both world champions at the same time, it’ll be a fantastic achievement.
“For a Manchester kid to fight for a world title at the famous Manchester Arena before an adoring home crowd, it’s a dream come true for them.”
Gallagher also has unbeaten prospects Hosea Burton and Marcus Morrison competing on the undercard of a star-studded bill.
In recent weeks Gallagher has also seen Paul Smith fight WBA super-middleweight champion Andre Ward Stateside, Callum Smith catapult himself into world contention with an impressive points victory against Chrisopher Rebrasse and Scott Cardle secure the British Lightweight title.
“They all have a bit of the gold dust and it’s rubbing off on each other, like you say, success breeds success,” said Gallagher.
“It’s been a very good year up to now, now we’re all set for the big Manchester show.”
