Express yourself! Keith Hill hopes Rochdale’s free flowing football will secure first away win at Accrington

By Josh Nicholls

Rochdale are hoping Accrington continues to be a happy hunting ground on Saturday, as they attempt to record their first away win of the season at the Football League’s bottom club.

The Dale have been victorious and scored at least three goals in each of their last three visits to Accrington, but are winless on their travels so far this season and have scored just one goal.

However, manager Keith Hill – who has a 100% winning record at Accrington’s Crown Ground – was upbeat about his sides chance’s ahead the game.

“I’m really looking forward to it, I’m hoping the players go out and express themselves,” Hill told the Dale Player.

“I’m relatively pleased (with the start to the season), but I’m disappointed we haven’t got at least two points in the two games in which we were defeated away from home.

“The circumstances and refereeing decisions went against us and as result of that people have tried to intimidate and put us under pressure as a football club.

“We’ve got to distance ourselves from negative speculation. We will live up to our credentials.”

Rochdale’s most memorable recent victory at the Crown Ground came in Hill’s first spell in charge of the club in the 2009/2010 season, when they staged a memorable comeback from two goals down to eventually run out 4-2 winners.

That campaign also saw ‘Dale end their 41-year purgatory in English football’s bottom tier as they won eventually promoted.

Hill’s side are currently ninth in League Two and will hope extend their unbeaten run to four games with yet another successful trip to East Lancashire.

However, the manager refused to be drawn on whether his team are beginning to develop a winning mentality.

“I really don’t know yet, a wise man once said nothing,” Hill cryptically remarked.
