Milan must make room for Carlos: Manchester City striker Tevez will only move if AC sell first

By John McDougall

If Carlos Tevez is to leave Manchester City for AC Milan, the Italian giants must sell before they buy according to vice-president Adriano Galliani.

The 29-year-old Argentine striker is entering the final year of his current deal and could leave the Etihad Stadium in a £10million deal.

But Galliani insists the Rossoneri – who tried and failed to sign Tevez last summer – must raise funds before launching a bid to bring him to the San Siro.

“Tevez is a Manchester City player and we will not be doing anything unless someone else leaves first,” he told Sky Sports Italia.

“If another club wants to come forward for Tevez, then they are welcome to do so.

“If we do not sell one of our players, then we cannot make any other moves.”

Milan hoped to raise the money to fund Tevez’s purchase by selling Robinho – who they bought from City in 2010 – to Santos, but no agreement has so far been reached.

Argentine international Tevez arrived at the Etihad Stadium in 2009 after controversially moving from fierce rivals Manchester United.

He has won both the FA Cup and Premier League title during his time with the Citizens, scoring 73 goals in 148 appearances for the Blues.

But his fallouts at the Etihad Stadium include refusing to come off the bench against Bayern Munich in September 2011, consequently being frozen out by ex-City boss Roberto Mancini.

Tevez – currently on around £200,000 a week at City – is rumoured to be prepared to take a £100,000 weekly pay cut to make the deal happen.
