Testing the water: Michael Jamieson and other British swimming stars in action at Manchester Aquatics Centre

Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson says the five-day British Gas International swimming meet starting tomorrow at the Manchester Aquatics Centre is ideal preparation for next month’s Commonwealth Games.

Jamieson will be joined in the pool by two times Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds, with the pair expected to draw in the crowds from swimming fans across the country.

“It’s a good opportunity to compete against some of my international rivals and see where I am a month out from the Commonwealth Games,” said Jamieson.

“I’m really looking forward to competing in Manchester and defending my two breaststroke titles.”

Freestyle relay medallist Jazz Carlin, world medallist Fran Halsall and 2012 Olympic competitor Aimee Willmott will also take to the pool.

In a change to last years’ structure, final races will be held during the morning session with heats the previous evening.

“I think it will be a good challenge and hopefully encourage everyone to raise their game in the morning as well as the evening sessions,” said Jamieson.
