Run, Bruno, run: Zuculini admits first Manchester City goal down to gruelling training sprints

Bruno Zuculini says his first goal in Manchester City colours is probably down to Manuel Pellegrini’s gruelling pre-season training regime.

Zuculini, 21, is still awaiting Premier League ratification for his move from Racing Club in Argentina to join compatriots Willy Caballero, Martin Demichelis, Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta at the Etihad and wasted little time in notching City’s USA tour opener, hooking the ball home after three minutes.

The Premier League champions eventually dispatched Sporting Kansas City 4-1.

But was has most impressed the midfielder is Chilean manager Pellegrini’s attitude towards pre-season: it’s no jolly, the proof was there for all in Scotland last week and now the USA.

“In Scotland we ran a lot, it was extremly hard,” a smiling Zuculini told Manchester City TV.

“But I’m feeling very good for it. That’s what pre-season is for and it’s not over yet.”

Zuculini was also full of praise for the test provided by Sport Kansas and the youngster is hopeful of successful seasons for both outfits, given his compatriot and friend Claudio Bieler plays for the MLS club.

“He told me it’s a very competitive league,” said Zuculini.

“You could see that today because they played very well and made it difficult for us because they had a lot of possession and a strong base to play from.

“I wish them the best. I see they’ve won the cup and I hope they can do it again, like us in the league.”
