James Gaskell hails ‘armchair ride’ as Sale Sharks put four tries past rock-bottom Worcester

By Alan Ross

Sale Sharks ran in four tries in a 26-10 win over Worcester Warriors to claim their first bonus point victory of the season on Friday evening.

After a very scrappy first half, with Mark Cueto further extending his lead as the Premiership’s top try scorer going over for his 83rd, three tries following the break were enough to put ‘the icing on a badly cut cake’ in the words of Sale’s director of rugby Steve Diamond.

Try scorer James Gaskell praised the effort of his fellow forwards as the win moved the Sharks into seventh in the league.

“After that first half we thought we were in for a real scrap in the second but fair play to the boys they turned up and put a bit of pressure through the drive and we came away with the five points,” he told Sale’s website.

“It helped a lot with the boys getting some dominance up front in the first half, especially in the front row, it made it an armchair ride at the back so it was a good team performance all round.

“Dimes [Diamond] was very cool at half time to be fair he said at least we are winning there are a lot of things we can sort out and a lot of it came from what we did up front.”

Sale have now recorded consecutive victories and next weekend face an away trip to league leaders Saracens who have only lost once this season.

“It is a massive game, any game down there is going to be a tough one, but we will go down with a lot of confidence after this week and last week and hopefully we can pull something out of the bag,” the 23-year-old said.
