‘Greedy’ Rochdale please manager Hill after Yeovil win lifts side to eighth

Rochdale AFC manager Keith Hill praised his side for demonstrating a greedy streak after defeating Yeovil Town 3-0 on Saturday.

Jack O’Connell’s first ever goal for the Dale and a double from captain Ian Henderson were sufficient to secure back-to-back away wins for Hill’s men.

The result caps an impressive week for Rochdale with the club picking up seven points from a possible nine, moving them up to eighth in League One.

Speaking to the official club website, Hill said: “We dressed ourselves down after the Swindon game and got greedy. We came here to win the game and we got three points so it’s job done.

“We wanted seven points [from the week], especially after drawing at home against Gillingham where I thought we thoroughly deserved to win the game.

“It [Saturday’s win] supports the great week that we’ve had and the tremendous effort from the players.”

O’Connell, 20, headed Rochdale into an early lead at Huish Park before Henderson’s brace took his tally up to seven for the season.

Another superb performance from goalkeeper Conrad Logan ensured that Keith Hill’s men kept yet another shut-out, with Logan helping himself to his fifth clean sheet since arriving at the club.

The Irish keeper, on loan from Leicester City, made a spectacular first-half reaction save from Jordy Hiwula to maintain his side’s lead, and took to twitter to share his delight at recent performances.

Dale now sit just outside the play-off places while struggling Yeovil have slipped down to 22nd.

Hill’s side face a testing run of fixtures over the next month, with Preston North End, Doncaster Rovers and Oldham Athletic all visiting Spotland Stadium in the coming few weeks.

There are also difficult trips away to Port Vale and MK Dons, while Monday night’s draw for the first round of the FA Cup will add to an already cluttered schedule.

Rochdale will be hoping to improve on last year’s run which ended with a fourth round defeat by Sheffield Wednesday.
