Uwe Rosler ‘disappointed and embarrassed’ as Wigan’s Championship bad spell continues

Despite plenty of promise and possession Wigan were again unable to produce goals this weekend losing 2-0 to Bournemouth.

It was the same display the team had been putting on for the last few weeks – applying pressure when it was needed but nothing went in the back of the net.

Bournemouth were threatening and powerful in front of goal at the same time as holding their defence together extremely well allowing the Latics no way through.

Manager Uwe Rosler admitted he was disappointed with the performance and apologised to the fans for another week where the team were not up to speed.

“Every defeat is tough when you are manager of Wigan Athletic and I’m disappointed that we didn’t execute the game plan from the first minute like we set out,” he said.

The Wigan manager pointed out positives about the performance but is well aware that the club is lacking a sense of confidence that would give them an edge.

“Overall, I feel personally embarrassed to the chairman and to the supporters that we as a group can’t deliver better results at this time.”

Despite Rosler feeling guilty and ashamed about his team’s poor start to the season, some of the players are still feeling as if they can recover from their mistakes.

Skipper Emmerson Boyce said: “It’s time to stick together and keep believing. That’s what we do at Wigan.

“We were all disappointed with the result at Bournemouth, we can’t hide away from that, they are a good passing team so we knew it was going to be tough.

“You don’t become a bad team overnight. We were flying before the international break, but it just shows you how you can have a bad spell in this league.”

The Latics captain knows there is quality in the side, but it is now vital that the pressure Wigan produce is turned into goals in their next game against Nottingham Forest.

“This is no time to feel sorry for ourselves, we need to remember what we’re about as a club and put in a performance, starting Tuesday.”
