A Bolton pensioner has been killed after a car ploughed into him in a tragic roadside collision just outside Bolton town centre last night.

The incident happened at around 8pm yesterday evening, Wednesday April 1.

A Skoda Fabia was heading eastward along Wigan Road in Deane towards Bolton town centre when it was involved in a collision with a pedestrian, who has today been named as 78-year-old Joseph Alan Hurst.

Mr Hurst suffered a fatal head injury and paramedics sadly pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police Constable Peter Cunningham from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This is a truly devastating time for Joseph’s family and we are supporting them as best we can with the help of specialist officers.

“We are carrying out an investigation to establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding this collision last night and are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.”
